Se maquiller ou se coiffer sont autant de gestes du quotidien qui permettent d'affirmer qui on est dans l'espace public. Comment se présente-t-on aux autres lorsque l'on vient d'ailleurs et que cela se voit ? Qu'est-ce qui dans le quotidien renvoie irrémédiablement à sa "différence" ? Son analyse fait apparaître la quête identitaire sous tension qu'elles vivent, entre des injonctions républicaines qui visent leur apparence et une recherche de racines plus ou moins fantasmées. Finalement, ces nouvelles beautés se réinventent quotidiennement, un moi cohérent par le métissage des looks. Elles s'affranchissent des frontières pour se créer un nouveau monde par la consommation.
